Steinhatchee

Post For Bull Buster Line 12/1/16

What is Steinhatchee ? I get asked that question on a regular basis even amongst seasoned anglers. Steinhatchee is a small fishing village on the west coast of the state of Florida, it is literally a villa by definition. It is also where I call home. Steinhatchee doesn't have any stoplights but it is absolutely full of great people and world class fishing. Our little town is known for its top notch flats fishing for redfish and spotted sea trout and our many offshore artificial reefs full of the gulfs finest gamefish, and a few reef donkies. There are multiple marinas here in town to choose from and none of them will disappoint; there is the old school style and flare of the River Haven marina and its eclectic fishing with grandpa feel and its quiet laid back ways, then there is the Good Times marina with its pub on the docks called " Who Dat " which is the place to be for the game and tipping back a beer and eating the best chicken wings you have ever had. And then there is the marina where you find the Marker One crew ( a fat red bearded guy and his little blonde wife) the Sea Hag marina which is a one stop shop for any angler looking for a fishing get-a-way. Sea Hag offers everything from a wide selection of live and frozen baits to artificials, 24 foot Carolina skiffs decked out for fishing and lodging from a shack for your fishing buddies to a two story house that sleeps 15 with granite countertops and all the fru-fru amenities to rival any resort. I guess since this is labeled a fishing report I should discuss the current fishing situation. Well..... it a transitional period here in the Hatch the water temps are fluctuating due to mother nature not making up her mind. Once it stays cool for more than a day the reds and trout will start to move up in the river and anybody will be able to catch fish until they are bored. Its the perfect time of year to throw on some braided fishing line , nothing super heavy 20 pounds will be more than plenty and jig the bottom with a white soft plastic and catch all the trout you want. This time of year you could walk across the river boat to boat because the trout get so thick in the river. All and all come see us here in Steinhatchee and if you want to make sure you still have a foot on your boat when you get back give me a call at Marker One Flats Charters.

***** Ps. anchoring in the channel is against the law and very annoying lets not do that.  Contact Capt.Kyle Skipper
